Nice story. I lived in Queens in 1985 , can’t believe it’s 41 years ago - damn! I rode the Q27 bus to Flushing Main Street, got on the number 7, rode to Grand Central, got off, got on I think the 2 or 3 to Astor Place every day. I never saw one argument or act of violence for an entire year going or coming from work. Different times
Deep Bo, I saw so much I wrote a book about it, but the subway I knew is not the subway of today either, it’s changed again. Less but worse violence, and so much showtime if you know what a mean. Riding the subway now is like walking into social media. The rats are still making it too lol
Ok I put your book in my saved subway cart on Amazon. Let me finish my Grateful Dead biography, currently on page 350 out of 620, and I’ll order your book. Maybe I was very lucky , probably so, but I never experienced violence on the subway from 1979 to 1990 when I was riding the subway. This includes riding the 4 or 5 to Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn for a few years, and waiting on subway platforms after Pace University by City Hall night school, 10 PM twice a week for a couple of years and the occasional late night subway ride after partying with friends
I appreciate that Bo. That book is a wild ride and unfortunately there are several violent incidents, but none of them are deadly, like being pushed into the tracks, but they are real. The thing is that at least in the subway stories I’ve told there’s some kind of humanity involved that survives or even triumphs.
Do good and good will follow you. There is no doubt about that! You do what others fail to do, speak up! If you see injustice, it’s time to end the real time affront now. I agree with wholeheartedly that every action engenders another like action. Stay strong!
Yeah Matt. Music IS the healing force.
